The mission of the Monterey Bay Model Yacht Club is to perpetuate:
  • Model yachting skills, including building, tuning, and racing
  • Sportsmanship and fellowship of sailors
  • Our right to have some FUN
  • From March through October, club members vie for position in an annual Club Points Series sailing ODOMs, Soling 50s, Vintage Marbleheads and Wheelers.  Friday evenings from March 13th through October 30th, the "casual" racing is held at Pinto Lake beginning at 4PM for the Skippers Meeting. First race starts at 4:00.
  • The 2014 Club ODOM Series winner was Rich Ludt.  There is a change in the schedule this year:
  • 1st Friday - Pinto Lake, Watsonville - ODOMs
  • 2nd Friday - Pinto Lake, Watsonville - Wheelers
  • 3rd Saturday - Lake El Estero, Monterey - ODOMs (if 3 Wheelers are present they will be scored and count towards the Season Series)
  • 4th Friday - Pinto Lake, Watsonville - ODOMs

  • The 2015 race was held April 18th at Pinto Lake.
  • Gary Boell schooled the fleet, going away in gorgeous conditions and highly variable winds topping out with 15-20 mph gusts ... lapping the entire fleet.  Second place was taken by Stan Pleskunas and third by Rich Ludt.  Another great event with Ron Saxon as Race Director.

  • The Fourth Annual 2015 Bay Area Wheeler Series schedule is now set.  Once again, many thanks to the participating hosting clubs; North Bay RC Sailing Club, San Francisco Model Yacht Club, South Bay Model Yacht Club and Monterey Bay Model Yacht Club.
  • 1st Race - MBMYC April 4 at Lake El Estero in Monterey
  • 2nd Race - SFMYC June 14 at Spreckles Lake in Golden Gate Park
  • 3rd Race - SBMYC Sept 19 at Lake Cunningham in San Jose
  • 4th Race - NBRCSC Oct 25 at the Marin Civic Center
  • The 2014 Bay Area Wheeler Series Jim Mayne Commemorative Trophy was won by Jeff Depew.  He will be defending his title this year.

Where Do We Sail?

Pinto Lake

Come Join the members of the Monterey Bay Model Yacht Club for Racing at Pinto Lake in Watsonville, CA for Friday afternoon races between March and November!

Wondering how to get there? Check out the map and details below. We sail to the right of the dock at the south side of the lake.

El Estero

We periodically race at El Estero in beautiful Monterey, CA. These races are announced on the events page.

Location of race starts depends on the wind conditions. With an offshore breeze, we sail on the eastern side of lake off of Cam Aquajito, between the Pearl Street bridge and Del Monte Ave. With an offshore breeze, we sail on the southwest side of the lake, off of Cam El Estero, between Bridge Street and Fremont Street.

Here's more on how to get to El Estero Lake.
